Muslims and Jews cannot eat most types of marshmallows since they are made from pig-derived Gelatin. Jains and other vegetarian groups (like some Buddhist sects) cannot eat marshmallows for the same reason. However, there are forms of cow-derived and vegetable-derived gelatin that can be substituted for pig-derived gelatin. These types of marshmallows can be consumed by people of those religions. Some marshmallow brands are certified as kosher and are made with vegetable gelatin.
There is not a specific religion that cannot eat marshmallows. For Muslims and Jews who follow halal/kosher rules strictly, they will avoid marshmallows with gelatin in them because gelatin is a substance derived from animals. But there are many alternative brands that do not have gelatin in them. Ex. Trader Joe's. Muslims and Jews also must be aware about the ingredients on food packages that may seem harmless, like Rice Krispies, jelly beans, and many other types of candy. On almost all food packages, though, will be a halal حلال sign or a kosher K sign, indicating that it is safe to eat.
