Many rights are being violated, such as the pursuit of happiness. Gay couples don't get federal tax benefits and only get state tax benefits if their state recognizes their marriage. Gay couples can't visit each other in the hospital unless their state recognizes their marriage. They probably can't dual-adopt unless their married either (varies from state-to-state). The list continues.
Straight couples, on the other hand, enjoy these rights all the time but take them for granted.
