i think its when it binds the mRNA together

To put it in two sentences:

1. Ribosomes are the place where Protein Synthesis takes place.

2. In the Ribosome, the mRNA, tRNA, and Amino Acids meet to form a Protein.

3. The Ribosome is the main organizing center for Protein Synthesis.

The translation process takes place in the ribosome (rRNA). In the first step of translation, called initiation, the small ribosomal subunit attaches to the strand of mRNA at the 5' end. tRNA molecule with the anticodon attaches to the mRNA. The large ribosomal subunit attaches at (p) site.

A ribosome is a cell organelle. It functions as a micro-machine for making proteins. Ribosomes are composed of special proteins and nucleic acids. A ribosome is basically a very complicated but elegant micro-machine for producing proteins. Each complete ribosome is constructed from two sub-units.
A eukaryotic ribosome is composed of nucleic acids and about 80 proteins and has a molecular mass of about 4,200,000 Da. About two-thirds of this mass is composed of ribosomal RNA and one third of about 50+ different ribosomal proteins.
