If credit card debt has become a problem, consider the following steps: Stop adding to your existing debt. Cut back on spending. Make a plan to meet your bills. For help making a plan, you may want to call a credit counseling service. If your situation is difficult but still manageable, you may want to personally call your creditors if you know you won't be able to make all payments by the due dates. Some creditors may be willing to arrange a debt repayment plan that you can manage. If you are working with a counseling service, talk with that agency first. For more information about budgeting and dealing with credit card debt collectors, click here. For information about your option of last resort, bankruptcy, click here. Be very careful using any kind of debt consoladation service or any kind of debt help. The best thing is to contact an attorney and see what your state laws are you may not be as bad off as you think. Most judges don't have a lot of sympathy for credit card co's. The person is right debt termination does not work they are all scams. I have chacked out over 20 of them on-line and find that they can't or will not provide any proof that their system works. Three of them said the same thing "you'll just have to trust me" ya right. Check your laws and also did both of you sign on the agrement, that could make a differance. You have a few options. First, try very hard to come up with the funds to make at least your minimum payments. Look for ways to cut back: can you turn off your cable? take in a roommate? start a part-time job? go out to eat less often? stop giving money to your kids/boyfriend/parents/etc.? If you don't make your payments on time, it has the potential to cause your interest rate to rise on this credit card (and, potentially, on other credit cards if you have a universal default clause). Second, (and you should do this regardless), you should call all of your credit card companies and see if you can get a reduction in the interest rate you pay. (If you go to www.oprah.com/jean you'll find a script for how to talk to them.) In essence, you'll tell them that you've been a good customer (if you have been), that you've paid your bills on time (they can look this up, so don't lie), and you're getting lots of credit card offers in the mail with better interest rates. It costs them more money to get a new customer than to keep you, so tell them you're thinking of taking your business elsewhere unless they help you out. This will work about half of the time, assuming that you have been paying your bills on time. (Note: even if they won't help you, don't close your account, as that can hurt your credit score; just stop using this account.) Third, as a last resort, you should talk to a credit counseling service. They will do an intake--it should take about an hour (be worried if it takes substantially less time) to see if you are a good candidate; if you are, they will consolidate your debts into one payment, usually at a lower interest rate, and then you'll just have to worry about making one payment. The downside is that using this service will put a black mark on your credit history, lowering credit score and making it harder for you to get credit in the future. Whatever you do: don't run and hide. Don't just stop paying your bills without talking to anyone at the credit card companies. You don't want to make a mistake that will hurt your ability to get credit for years to come.

Is care one credit card good on credit reports?

Care One is a debt consolidation service that negotiates with your creditors to reduce your debt. Debt reduction never looks good on your credit report because it signals to creditors that you have not paid your previous debts in full. However, most people who are deep in debt rightly prioritize getting out of debt over having a good credit rating. Also, credit reports only go back seven years, so eventually negative items will drop off your report.

How can a credit repair service help individuals who are deep in debt?

A credit repair service can be helpful to individuals who may have misinformation on their credit report. For a fee, a credit repair service will fight on your behalf to remove any old or untrue information on your credit report. Since most credit card companies use your credit score to raise your interest rates, it may help to lower your current interest rates on credit cards you have or are currently paying on. If your payments are lower, it will free up cash to pay down the debt faster.

Is it possible to open a savings account at an average bank and be issued a debit card with bad credit?

Absolutely, DEBIT CARD, implies that you have money already in the bank. A debit card just takes money out of your account, YOUR MONEY. In fact, if you have bad credit, like me, then that is probably the best place to start if you are trying to rebuild your credit, which you should be trying to do. Now a CREDIT CARD means you will be spending money that you don't have, but using a credit card also means you are promising to pay when the bill comes in the mail. That's the piece of paper that changes colors the longer you ignore it. Alot of credit card companies will give anybody a card. I mean ANYBODY. Theoretically, my cat could probably get a credit card ( she would probably have a higher limit than me too!). Usually in that situation, they start you out with only a 200 dollar limit. But that's more than enough to dig yourself into a deep hole if you arent careful. That's what the credit card companies want, they want to keep you as a slave to the bank. So be careful, pay your bills on time and go head and rebuild that credit. GOOD LUCK.

Is Everest Debt Solutions reputable?

Everest Debt Solutions is one of the best debt settlement companies. My husband and I had gotten deep into debt almost $80,000 worth since I had my hours cut and my husband lost his job in the construction industry. We were trying desperately to find a solution. We called each of the credit card companies and all but one of them REFUSED to work with us. We looked online for help and with our local Chamber Of Commerce and Everest Debt Solutions was recommended as accredited and a member of USOBA. Our program began in 2008 and so far we have settled almost $65,000 worth of credit card debt. Some of the creditor tactics were a bit harsh however we successfully waited them out and reached settlement for more than half off the balance of the account. On specific creditor settled for 20% of the balance after only 9 months which was outstanding. I would recommend Everest to my friends and family and surely to the WIKI community.

One con of accepting and using a credit card can be a possible decline in one's credit score if one has too much credit on the card or if one makes late payments. Another con can be that one may get deep into debt or stuck with a high interest rate that one finds difficult to pay off.

Should I Consider Credit Card Debt Consolidation?

Let the great debt-ate begin. Many Americans are still being hit hard by the economic downturn of the past couple of years. Though the economy is beginning to show signs of life and the job market is steadily improving, what has been done cannot be undone. Americans are swimming in puddles of debt so deep they can barely breathe. Everyone is looking for answers, trying to find a way out of their mounting credit card debt with unforgiving interest rates. Most are willing to try almost anything to get themselves relief, but should credit card debt consolidation be considered? Perhaps only as a last ditch option. Paying off debt is never a fun process and paying those sky high interest rates isn’t enjoyable either. Of course, you weren’t complaining when you were buying those Jimmy Choo shoes or new Gucci handbag. The question now becomes: how do I stay afloat financially and manage pay off my credit? Well, before considered debt consolidation here are a few things you may try. Ditch any luxuries you may have. When you hear the word “luxuries” you may think I’m referring to extravagant purchases but that is not the case. Every person has certain luxuries in their lives that they greatly enjoy but can also do without. Here are a few luxuries you can begin cutting out of your life that can save you money that you can put towards paying off your debt: eating out, cable television, drinking out, magazine subscriptions and the like. This is just a starter list. If you limit your meals to that which you cook you could save hundreds of dollars which could be poured into paying off your debt. Build a budget and honor it. If you are having debt issues it is likely because you either didn’t have or didn’t mind your budget. Write out everything you are spending money on and eliminate those things which would qualify as “wasteful/unnecessary spending” such as shopping. Set out in your budget how much you need to set aside each month to cover your debt. If you need to start by only making minimum payments on your card then do so. If you are incapable of performing either of these tasks yourself, only then should you consider credit card debt consolidation. This should be considered a last ditch effort only because of the risk involved. First of all, debt consolidation costs you more money. The companies which do the consolidating are essentially lending you the finances by taking over the payments, which you now make to them. They may lower your monthly payment but they will also assess additional fees. These loans often require that you provide collateral, such as your home, and if you are unable to pay, you run the risk of losing your home. For these reasons, debt consolidation should be something you only consider if you are truly desperate. Impossible as it may seem you can stay afloat despite your gaudy credit debt. Make yourself plan and stick to it. Do away with things you are buying that you no longer need. Perhaps you can sell things that are no longer useful to you. All of these things are great ways to save a few extra dollars that may help you make those debt payments and not need to turn to debt consolidation.

Does it hurt your credit score to not use credit cards?

To answer your question its possible! If you don't use the credit card it is possible that the credit card company will closed your account and for inactivity and this is bad. Here is an excerpt from Phil Turner book The Credit Bible about credit cards and credit score. "Do not close your credit cards accounts - it will affect your credit score. If you already have many credit cards, do not close the accounts because all the damage to your credit score has already been done. Just put the card up and don't use it accept spending small amounts to keep the card active. Credit card companies will close an account if it is inactive with 18 months. Also please note that you want deep credit roots (accounts over 5 years) this will definitely raise your score greatly. So you need old good accounts to get that high score. Reduce the balance of your credit cards to 30% and below of your credit limit. If you have a credit card with a $5,000 limit, your balance reported to the credit bureau should be $1500 and under in order to have an excellent credit score. If you go over this amount it will affect what is called your "utilization rate." Credit score formulas respond favorable to utilization 30% and below. It's a good idea to assess all of your credit cards and align them correctly with this formula. Use the form in the appendix. Please note: if you have an American Express card or card with no preset limits. You will be rated on the highest credit you have charged and the 30% rule still applies. Try using the card to increase your high credit limit by spending more with the card with cash you were already going to use and get that limit up to a ratio that will keep you within 30% of that high credit. This is why if you pay your credit off each month in full will not give you a great credit score." Source: The Credit Bible, Everything you'll Ever Want To Know About Credit.
