What should you do when your dog is on a leash and a loose dog approaches and your dog attacks the other dog badly?

If your dog starts the attack, pull your dog away with the leash and get out of there! If your dog gets injured somewhere, clean the wound so it doesn't get infected. If the stray dog gets injured, DO NOT TOUCH IT. Instead, get an adult or call animal control.

∙ 16y agoi would take it to the vet immediately to see what injuries have been inflicted upon it. if the injuries are significant, you could actually sue the owner of the other dog. hope your dog will be o.k.

∙ 16y agoif have been in this situation before - try and get your dog away from the other dog - turn in the other direction,, if possible get your dog up someones drive - shout really loudly to scare the dog off - you have every right to boot the dog if it makes contact with you dog... if ever in doubt,carry a stick - you can then always put your dog and yourself in between the stick n the other dog also call the dog warden.animal control - this is an offence - a dog dangerously out of control in a public place

But first, take pictures & find out if the offending dog has an owner (and who they are & where they live) or if you need to contact Animal Control in your area to ensure capture in case your worst fears are realized.
