Is a muzzle loader gun a centerfire gun?

Muzzle loading guns must be loaded in parts though the end of the barrel. The method of igniting the gunpowder in a muzzle loader is different than modern guns in that it uses a primer cap or pan instead of hitting primer inside of a bullet shell. Muzzle loaders are neither center fire nor rim fire.

Where can you find a small rifleprimer nipple for a hammer type muzzle loader?

Rifle primers are generally not reccommended for muzzle loading firearms- the flame is not large enough to reliably ignite black powder or Pyrodex. There are nipples that use a #209 shotgun primer, and even then, it is reccommended that you use a primer intended for black powder. Check with Dixie Gun works for a nipple that will fit your rifle.

Is there a 209 primer conversion kit available for the 870?

By 870 I assume you mean the Model 870 shotgun? If so, there would be no purpose for that type of conversion. Shotshell primers are of the 209 size. The 209 "conversion" is done with muzzle loaders. The idea is to replace the muzzle loader nipple (that holds the cap) with a conversion unit that uses the 209 shotshell primer to get more positive ignition of the black powder.

Do they make a muzzle loader barrel for a Remington 870 shotgun?

i have a remington 870 wingmaster its my grandpas and it has 3 barrels the slug , the bird shot barrel and the muzzeloader barrel it takes a 209 primer just like the the regular muzzeloader its very interesting

Loaded black powder gun in car Wisconsin?

Most areas will allow a loaded muzzle loader in a vehicle so long as it is unprimed, (no powder in the pan, percussion cap or 209 primer) though not a safe idea, and you should always check with the local jurisdiction to be sure.

Is inline black powder rifles considered blk pwdr or not and can a felon own one?

Under Federal law, a convicted felon may own an antique firearm, which includes percussion cap and flintlock muzzle loading rifles. Firearms that use a #209 primer (modern shotshell primer) are a problem, since a felon may not possess ammunition, and the 209 primer is considered ammunition.HOWEVER- state law may be more restrictive. For instance, Georgia state law will not permit a felon to own ANY firearm, including a muzzle loader. You need to check the law in YOUR state- and stick to traditional muzzleloaders if allowed.

What kind of guns do not use a 209 primer?

Among muzzle loaders, caplocks and flintlocks do not use 209 primers.

Is there a gun in that exist that does not use a spring in its parts except for a muzzle loader and give examples?

Even most muzzle loaders use a spring somewhere. The only ones I can think of offhand were a type of shotgun designed for covert operations, where it was essentially a two-piece rod (often disguised as a cane or umbrella), and it would be fired by pushing the rear section of the rod into the front section - this would push the firing pin forward, which would strike the primer.

Why won't muzzle loader ignite the primer?

because it's the firing pin that hits the back of the rounds casing which in turn ignites the primer to fire the round out. so maybe depending what fire arm you have as i have only fired a few different rifles you may need to check the firing pin is intact and working so stripping the fire arm down if you have a manual which you could easily acquire may be worth checking out. i don't know if this is of any help to you

What is the cartridge on a gun?

It is an assembly consisting of the cartridge case, gunpowder, a primer and a projectile (bullet). It is one complete round of ammunition. Early muzzle loading firearms did not use them.

What is your Thompson Center Thunder Hawk muzzle loader worth?

I own a 2000 year Thunderhawk in stainless steel with a composite stock. I have given it a value of about $300 or so. I have a Westfield scope on it, and a 209 primer conversion kit installed ($45). I shoot .429 Speer bullets with Hornady .50 caliber sabot wads...I can make a smiley face at 50 yards and at 100 yards... watch out!Shawn Schofield

Is gunpowder in bullets?

It would probably help to define a few things.A "bullet" is only the projectile which comes out of the muzzle of the barrel and is propelled at the target.Gun powder is the propellant. The primer is a tiny explosive charge which ignites the gun powder. The case is the cylindrical object which holds the primer, powder, and bullet.A cartridge is the assembled case, primer, powder, and bulletPeople frequently say "bullet" when they really mean "cartridge".Cartridges contain gun powder, bullets generally do not.
