The following are the basic requirements to enlist in the US Marine Corps:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or a resident alien.
  • Meet the physical, mental, and moral standards.
  • Be between the ages of 17-29. Seventeen-year olds need parental consent.
  • Have a high school diploma.
  • Take and pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test.
  • Pass a Military Entrance Processing Station medical exam.

to actually become a Marine, you will not be given the status/name until you have earned it at Parris Island, aka UMSC basic training. Until you have passed that, you are not a Marine, whether you have sworn in or not. You are a recruit. Advice: Dont say me or I there. It's "This recruit". Its to promote a team atmosphere and break away from the one man ideal.
