What skills should a good politician have?

Personally, i think that in order to become a mayor, one of the skills needed wou[ldd be critical thinking because with out it...you wouldn't be able to help solve community problems.

You need to have an advanced degree in memorization and enthusiastic projection of Propaganda, and have failed every class in honesty. This also applies to any political office you may need to hold prior to both parties deciding you'll be the next president based on their unspoken but unanimous agenda. Good public speaking and a working knowledge of grammar is a plus, but not necessary as has been proven in the past.

There are two things a politician needs to be successful: the ability to see problems, and the ability to convince other politicians to help him solve them. As far as educational training, there are political science courses but most political scientists work as staffers to elected politicians--they don't usually run for office themselves. Governor Otter of Idaho has a political science degree, but he spent most of his formative years working in agribusiness. An elected politician can have just about any training. Let's look at the governors. Among them we have two journalists (Alaska's Sarah Palin and Hawaii's Linda Lingle), a farmer (Montana's Brian Schweitzer), more lawyers than you can count, a veterinarian (Georgia's Sonny Perdue), a teacher (Iowa's Chet Culver), a historian (Maine's John Baldacci), a West Point graduate (Nebraska's Dave Heineman), among others. Delaware's Jack Markell and New Jersey's Jon Corzine have MBAs. Three governors don't have college degrees: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jodi Rell and Jan Brewer. Schwarzenegger and Brewer never went.
