That depends on a few other things, how big is the spider? Where did you find it?--etc. There's a brown spider that lives in North America and looks like a dark brown version of the infamous black widow. On it's underside there's usually two white or cream colored dots or ovals. This spider is commonly called the cupboard spider where I live, but I hear it's called the brown house spider too; where I live there's another spider that has that name so I have always called it the cupboard spider. It's not as dangerous as the black widow, but it hurts when it bites and some people have a bad reaction to the venom and get nauseated, sometimes there's a headache, lethargy and blisters around the bit. This is just 1 of many brown Spiders that could fit that description.

There's also a nasty one called the BROWN WIDOW and it lives a little further south. It's called latrodectus geometricus scientifically and I hate them! Devilishly hard to identify like a mixed breed dog!--they've been known to have white, cream, orange and or yellow spotting on their abdomen and they also can range in shade from light khaki colored to deep almost black brown, similar in overall body color to the Cupboard spider. Getting bitten by the brown widow is about as enjoyable as getting bitten by a redback or black widow.

There's also the Giant Brown House spider, that one has light colored markings on it, it's pretty big for a northern range spider, they're pretty harmless though. Most people mistake them for wolf spiders. They're a lot scarier looking than they actually are. They're fairly beneficial to a home because they eat the nasty spiders (Hobo spiders and recluse spiders) so I usually leave them alone.

There's the Brown House Spider (Aka the Hobo spider): looks like a smaller version of the Giant Brown House spider. This little guy is aggressive and can cause Necrosis if it bites you. I squish it whenever I see it.

The Brown Recluse: Usually mid to light brown where I live, but I've also seen them almost black in color and rather gray. Sometimes the markings on their head (Which really looks like a violin, hence their other name, the fiddle back) but you probably don't want to get close enough to check, well unless it's dead. I've seen it with a dark body and legs and lighter almost khaki or cream colored abdomen. Much like the Hobo spider, the recluse is bad news, but it's not as aggressive supposedly hobo's are a lot more common where I live than the recluse so I deal with them more often.

Hope that helps

I think I found it at http://www.insectidentification.org/insect-description.asp?identification=Arboreal-Orb-Weaver This is what they said: Other Name(s): Orb Weaver Characteristics: Orb Weavers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Common traits among some include the rounded abdomen and orange-to-brown and brown or black coloring - those this colors may vary per species. Legs of an Orb Weaver are generally very long, giving it a most menacing look, and their overall body size can range from 6mm for males and up to 10mm to 20mm for the females.

Habitats can range from grass to corners of homes or under protected porches. Their webs are clearly their operating stage as the Orb Weaver sits in the middle, head facing downwards, waiting for prey to come upon their net. If the spider is not found in the middle of the web, it is usually nearby monitoring the web by way of a "signal" line still attached to the spider. The moment a prey gets entangled in the sticky web, the spider can come out to finish the job.

It is reported that Orb Weavers will re-spin a new web every night. Their proficiency at nighttime hunting and propensity to enjoy insects makes them the ultimate in the way of mosquito zappers. If you find an Orb Weaver near your front door or deck, and it is not in an intimidating area for you or your guests, keep it around and you'll notice the mosquito population dwindle in the dusk-to-nighttime hours.
