Texas is a much longer state going from south to north, but Maine is located considerably further north.
Actually it's Idaho. If you follow the lines of Latitude, Idaho has a more northern point, as does Montana, Washington, North Dakota, Michigan and Minnesota. Minnesota has the most northern point - The Northwest Angle. I think Maine is 7th as far as North goes - but it does win the furthest east title.
Parts of Wisconsin are farther north than parts of Maine are. But no part of Wisconsin is farther north than the northernmost part of Maine is.
No state. Canada borders Idaho to the north.
Obviously Alaska is north of Idaho. States in the "Lower 48" that have significant amounts of terrain farther north than the northern border of Idaho include Washington and Maine. Minnesota has a little tip that seems to be slightly farther north than Idaho, but if it is, it's not by much. The Canadian province of British Columbia abuts Idaho's northern border.
Northen Maine is knowm for it's potatoe crop. Only second behind Idaho.
