I think it depends on your state's laws about homeschooling. At the time we did it, we were told the best way to start was to just not re-enroll him after the summer was over. That's what we did and had no problems at all. However, even the laws in our state may have changed by now, so be sure to check into it for your particular state.

My oldest went to public school for several years before I withdrew her, and has no desire to go back. Unless you can somehow make public school be more interesting and flexible and take considerably less time than homeschooling, you may be in an uphill battle to say the least.

By online homeschooling or via regular way, it should not effect children's future really at all. Children will also get a high school diploma and can get scholarships to go to college.
