The best sunblock should provide a wide UV spectrum protection. You should also watch out for these harmful ingredients: PABA, Parabens and Benzophenone. If you're looking for natural alternative, try Dari Natural's Tropical Butter. It's made from unrefined shea butter and lanolin, and it provides natural UV ray protection. I is also recommended for young children. That's the one we use at our local daycare.

The protecting capacity of a sunscreen is measured by the term SPF (sun protecting factor). A higher SPF sunscreen will protect you from the sun more. It is recommended to use at least SPF 15 sunscreen or higher. Sunscreens can also help prevent photoaging.

Find one that has been accepted by the skin cancer Foundation. Here's what you need to know about sunscreens: Not all are alike, not all have the same stability or ingredients of sun protection, and SPF is about TIME. For example, if it takes you 10 minutes to burn, an SPF of 30 will allow you to stay out 30 minutes longer, or 300 minutes. You can't reapply to increase your exposure.

There are new mineral sunscreens available, and more chemical ones. Sunscreens in moisturizers do not have the same staying power as sunscreens designed to be sunscreens.

You can get waterproof and water-resistant. The difference is the amount of time you can spend in the water before re-applying.

A sunscreen will still allow some "tanning" while a sunblock literally blocks more UV.

Make sure it protects against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.

Good luck!

The best way to avoid sunburn is to remain indoors. Beyond that a high SPF rated sunblock can help. However a sunblock combined with clothing to cover exposed areas, and a wide brimmed hat to provid will help. Sunblock must be reapplied every hour, or according to package directions.

The best sun block I not going out in the sun at all. But if you have to, use baby sun block. It's stupid, yes, but it has a higher SPF which means it blocks out more of the suns rays.
