Use a spray gun, just like the auto shops use. Do any body work, mask chrome, lights, etc., that aren't going to get painted, and do it menticulously. Scuff (sand) the area to be painted well. You shouldn't see any "shine" or "gloss" of the old paint. None. And be sure to sand the whole area to be painted. That includes right up to the taped off areas. These will be the "edges" of the new paint, and if you want the paint to stick, you have to sand up and almost "under" the edge of the chrome or rubber trim so the new paint will stick. Prep work is the key to a good, long lasting finish. If you don't want to take the time or go to the trouble of doing this, forget painting the car. Good luck with your project.
