How swollen is it? How old was the calf? If the calf was already starting to graze and the udder does not look overly enlarged, it should take care of itself in a few days/weeks.

How friendly is this cow? Can you easily handle her? If her udder seems very swollen and hard, but she's okay with you handling her, you might want to try to milk her. Just be very careful as her udder might be sore. Watch out in case she tries to kick you away.

A warm towel might help soothe some of the pain if she's not letting you milk her. Just remember to be very cautious.

Don't milk her dry. Milk enough to relieve the strain and make her more comfortable, but you want to leave her with some milk in her udder. If you keep doing this and she's repeatedly not being milked dry, her body will gradually start producing less and less milk.

If you are unable to milk her and she really seems uncomfortable, you may have to call a vet out. There is the risk of mastitis.

Can you put milk back in a cow?

A calf would drink the milk direct from a cows udder, or it can be fed the milk from a bottle, but you can not put the milk back into the udder.

What comes first cow is separated before calf is born or cows udder fills with milk?

It depends on the cow. Heifers sometimes will bag up (udder fills with milk) for weeks before they calve, other times they will bag up after the calf is born. Most cows will bag up a few days before a calf is born, so it can be either or.

What is a cows breast called?

Cows only have one "breast," and that is the udder.

How long does a calf breastfeed?

Calves do not "breastfeed," actually, because their dams, the cows, do not have breasts like human mothers do. Cows have what is called an udder, and the action to which a calf relies on its mother for milk is called suckling. The length of time a calf--particularly a beef calf--remains a suckler is for around six to eight months.

What do call a cows milk bag?

The Udder.

Is a cow with a large udder inherited?

Udder size is heritable, yes. This is quantified by milk production: as we've seen in dairy cows, the larger the udder the more milk a cow will (or should) produce.

Can you suck a cows udder?

No.

Do cows have hair and produce milk for young?

Yes. As mammals, cows do have hair/fur and produce milk for their young. The milk forms in the cow's udder and is available to the calf/calves at any of the four teats.

Is there a breed of male cows that have udders?

No. The udder develops during the time the heifer, after being bred at 15 months of age (breeding age), is pregnant with calf. The udder doesn't start developing until the third trimester, when it starts filling up with milk, and is ready until the calf is born and gets up and starts suckling.

Do bovine and steers have utters?

"Bovine" refers to cattle in general. A cow is a female bovine that has reproduced or had a calf which is a baby bovine. A cow does have an udder because she has to feed her calf. Also a heifer has an udder; a heifer is a two-year old female bovine that has not yet produced a calf. After she produces her first calf she is then considered a cow. Cows and heifers are the only bovine with an udder. Steers are male bovine that have been castrated or have had their testicles cut off, so they cannot reproduce. Bulls are male bovine that are used in reproduction.

What is a joke that goes where do cows?

Where do cows lie? On their UDDER side.

At what stage does the udder form?

Are you meaning fetal development, or in a heifer? In the heifer, the udder starts to form as her unborn-calf develops, although this development can vary dramatically from heifer to heifer. Some fully bag-up (are full of milk) weeks before the calf is born; some do not get a full udder right before or right after the birth. The breed of cow also influences the size and development of the udder. Udder development continues during lactation. The udder stretching by being full of milk, and the calf nursing on the teats, helps to increase the size of the udder in the young cow. By the second birth, the udder will often be larger and really show the cow (goat, sheep's) potential as a milk-producer.
