Eat vegetable broth, which is replete with minerals and trace minerals, and is easy to digest. Fresh vegetable juices are an excellent dietary supplement as well. Eat a diet of whole, unprocessed foods. Avoid processed food products that contain preservatives, artificial flavorings and colorings, and other additives. Avoid saturated animal fats, fried foods, and large meals, all of which place added stress on the liver. Strictly avoid alcohol, which is toxic to the liver. Also eliminate from your diet-refined sugar and anything containing caffeine. To ensure an adequate supply of basic nutrients, take a good multivitamin and mineral supplement daily. Choose a capsule or soft gel-cap form for best absorption. Colostrum has been shown to strengthen immune function and improve digestion. Take 500 milligrams three to four times daily. Lipoic acid is an antioxidant that helps to improve liver function. Take 100 milligrams daily. The combination of magnesium and malic acid helps to initiate the Krebs cycle, a series of enzyme reactions that results in the conversion of nutrients into energy at the cellular level. If fatigue is a problem, take 100 milligrams of magnesium and 300 milligrams of malic acid one hour before breakfast. Vitamin C and bioflavonoids have anti-inflammatory properties. Take 500 milligrams five to six times daily. This can reduce the duration of jaundice. If you have a sensitive stomach, choose an esterified form. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. Choose a product containing mixed tocopherols and take 200 international units in the morning and again at bedtime.
