∙ 12y agoFossils can tell us more than two things! They can tell us in what environment the surrounding rock was formed (e.g. crinoids required still warm sea water rich in plankton). Some fossils (but only some) can tell us the age of the rock in which they are found. Some can tell us the climate of the time in which the rock was formed (by chemical analysis). Others can give us clues as to what different organisms ate and how they behaved. Some can show how organisms have evolved, and which species are closely related. These are just a few things that fossils can tell us.
