Almost everyone wears Western-style clothing almost all the time. Some people wear traditional kimono for certain special events, and women do this much more than men do. In general, people when working dress more formally than in Western countries. Most men who work in offices wear suits, and uniforms are common for many jobs. It depends on the area of Japan you are asking about. Tokyo (mainland) Japan is very flashy, over the top and colorful. Think like cartoon bikers. In lower Japan, they are more conservative with mostly greys, greens, and whites with accesories in bright colors. Layers are very popular. The men mostly wear tight-ish jeans or loose slack paired with t-shirts or button down shirts. Trucker hats are till very popular here.
