A cocker spaniel is a type of dog breed. Cocker spaniels have very long ears. Their eyes kind of hang down a little bit. That is what causes them to et a cherry eye. Do cocker spaniels swim?

95% of dogs can swim. Cocker spaniels do swim but were naturally bred to hunt birds and small mammal's. Sometimes, if there is a duck in the water the cocker spaniel will leap and do whatever it takes to get that prey. So if you have a cocker spaniel and you find it attacking a bird in the backyard or trying to catch a squirrel this is perfectly normal.

Do cocker spaniels get along with other Cocker spaniels?

Yes. they should do :) They are a lovely breed of dog. The only aggressive Cocker spaniels I have met are golden cockers. But if you've had a cocker spaniel for many years, and then decide to bring home a puppy, they might get a little jealous. So be careful. but if you get them the same time. it should be fine :) x

No they are not. All dogs are mammals. Guide dogs for the blind are usually Labrador or golden retriever breeds because they are some of the most loyal and intelligent breeds. Guide dogs for the deaf are usually spaniels such as cocker spaniels because of their great hearing and affection.

What are some characteristics of cocker spaniels?

Cocker Spaniel is the term used to describe two different but closely related breeds, the American and English Cocker Spaniel. Cocker spaniels are small dogs (generally 24-30 lbs.) that come in a range of colors, including liver, black, lemon, and red. They are generally playful, good-natured, and gentle. Although sometimes timid, a trained and socialized cocker spaniel will be peaceful towards people and other dogs, making them ideal for families with older children. They are intelligent and respond well to training. They do, however, they require a good deal of cleaning and brushing to maintain their coat and to alleviate dog odor. They are predisposed to ear and eye problems, things that should be checked regularly.

Do cocker spaniels require grooming?

Yes, less when they are a house dog, more when they are kept outside. But compared to most dogs, far less grooming, mostly straight foward. If you have a cocker spaniel as house dog, you might want comb the dogs hair more often, to reduce shedding. If your cocker spaniels spends more time outside, you might want to trim it's hair more, to reduce matting tangles. More frequint bathing, often reduces need for hair groming. Some people brush their dogs teath, others buy treats, that are supppose to help keep dogs teath clean. Cocker spaniels, do get dirty, but they also will clean themselves to a degree. It is important, to keep their beding and beding area clean as well.
