Active TB can be diagnosed via the following Process:

1-History of contact with a TB Patient.

2-Non specific TB symptoms such as fever , malaise , anorexia and weight loss.

3-If TB is suspected a Mantoux test is perforemed , and induration measured ,

an induration of more than 10mm with no BCG adminstration , or 15mm with BCG vaccination implies active TB.

4-Culture of the bacteria can be done , in children as they swallow the sputum , collection is done by 3 consecutive gastric washings , to isolate the organism , in adults however the organism can be isolated from the coughed sputum.

5-The organism is cultured , a positive culture denotes active TB.

6-The organism is viewed as acid fast bacilli with zeihl nelsen stain , and tested for antibiotic sensitivity.
