We see in the book of Genesis that he was ready to sacrifice his only son Isaac, even though he got him when he was well over hundred years of age.
A:Much of the Book of Genesis concerns events that supposedly happened after the time of Abraham, so it was not possible for Abraham to have written this material. Even the stories about Abraham himself contain anachronisms that prove they were written many centuries after the time attributed to Abraham. For example, Genesis speaks of Abraham travelling from Ur of the Chaldees, although the Chaldees were an Arabian tribe that only settled in Mesopotamia around 800 BCE. The book speaks of Abraham travelling through the land of the Philistines and meeting their kings, yet the Philistines did not even arrive in the Levant until around 1250 BCE. Domesticated camels play an important part in the story of Abraham, although new research by two archaeologists at Tel Aviv University, published 2013 in Tel Aviv: Journal of the Institute of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University has established that camels were domesticated in the Levant sometime between 930 and 900 BCE.The biblical legend of Abraham arose in the first millennium BCE.
The Book of Genesis says that Abraham worshipped God, but nowhere does it say that he worshipped only one god. Monotheism only arrived in Judah in the eighth century BCE, long after the time of Abraham. However, a well known Jewish midrash has it that Abraham, while still a young boy, realised that his father's carved idols had no power, and perceived that there is but one God. According to the midrash, he broke the idols to prove his point. Bruce Feiler (Abraham) says that probably less than one per cent of the stories told about Abraham appear in the Bible, with an explosion of detail beginning to appear in Jewish tradition from the third century BCE onwards.
to remember when Abraham was going to sacrifice his own son to prove obedience to god.
The basic moral behind the story is that God, does not want human sacrifices. Abraham loved god, and would do anything to prove that to him. Therefore he was always worshiping things such as, lambs, ox's and any other animal that was used for food, to God. God wanted to discover Abraham's devotion. So he was about to askAbraham something one should never have to be asked. Abraham had only one son. God told Abraham that he had to sacrifice his son, and so he would do what God had asked of him. Abraham had gathered some wood, and had Issac walk with him to the top of Moriah mountain. They walked for two days. When they finally arrives Abraham set up the fire. He had tied up Issac's hands and feet, and had gotten a knife and was ready to sacrifice him. Then one of the angels came down, and told Abraham that he didn't have to do such a thing. Abraham was relieved. God told Abraham, that he was pleased with the animals, and never wanted anyone to sacrifice another man. He was contained with what he was already offered.
