Barack Obama's mother was Stanley Ann Dunham, however, she preferred to use her middle name, Ann. She was born on November 27, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas, to Stanley and Madelyn Dunham. Ann's father worked on oil rigs during the Great Depression, and served in the Army during World War II. Her mother worked in a bomber assembly line during the war. Sometime after the war their family moved to Hawaii. Ann attended the University of Hawaii, where she met Barack Obama Sr. The two were married in 1960, and she gave birth to son Barack Jr. in 1961. After Obama Sr. left, Dunham married Lolo Soetoro and moved with him to Indonesia, where Barack Jr's half-sister Maya was born. After four years in Indonesia, Dunham sent her young son back to Hawaii to be raised by her parents. Ann's father died in 1992. Ann succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1995. Ann's mother currently resides in Oahu, Hawaii.
Obama's mother was Ann Dunham (1942-1995). Her legal first name was Stanley, but she never liked to use it. She was born in Wichita, KS, while her father was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS in 1942. She lived in the Wichita area during World War II, where her mother worked at a bomb manufacturing plant. After World War II, her parents eventually moved to Hawaii with her. She went to the University of Hawaii where she met Barack Obama Sr, a student from Kenya. They were married February 2, 1961, and Barack II (the future president) was born on August 4th.
Barack's parents later divorced (it turned out he was not entirely honest about another wife, back home in Kenya). Barack's father stayed in the U.S. and studied at Harvard for a while, but ultimately returned to Kenya. Ann later married Lolo Soetoro, and she and her son moved to Indonesia for several years. She and Soetoro also later divorced. Ann Dunham was an anthropologist, and she received her PhD in that subject. She died of cancer, and President Obama has said she made a major impact on his life by encouraging intellectual curiosity and a love for books.
Barack Obama's mother was Ann Dunham, a white woman born in Kansas. She married Barack Obama (Senior), an African student from Kenya when both were studying at the University of Hawaii. Their son (the future president) was born in Hawaii in August 1961. But while President Obama was close with his mother (who died of cancer in 1995), he was also raised by his maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, whom he considered like a mother to him.
Stanley Ann Dunham , the mother of Barack Obama, was born on November 29, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas, and died on November 7, 1995 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
