Without going into too much detail, Beethoven was a strict, tempermental, introverted man who focused on his work intensively. He would often go on walks in the forest for some peace, silence, and to be able to think straight. People that knew Beethoven described him as blunt, arrogant, and difficult to work with. So difficult if fact, that he would stop playing in the middle of a performance if people weren't giving him his full attention or if they were chatting during the performance. Basically, he was strict, blunt, followed his own rules, feisty, and introverted.

It is a popular belief he was often irascible, easy to anger. He was also a heavy drinker like his father which may have triggered his behaviour. However, there were times when he was kinder and calm - although he could be loud and wasn't all discreet. He often spoke loudly and his friends would often tell him to be quiet. loved being with children and wanted a child of his own. In the last decade of his life he was in a custody battle against his sister-in-law, Johanna, to keep his nephew Karl as his own son after his biological father (Beethoven's brother, Kaspar Karl) died of tuberculosis.

Beethoven had a strong personality and even when he was plagued by his deafness he did not let it stop him from doing what he loved - and most of the music he composed while he was deaf turned out to be his best compositions to date.

Beethoven was a bit crazy, yet he wrote wonderful music. He had a short temper, and he composed some of his most famous works while he was deaf.
