US General of the Air Force Curtis LeMay, in 1965, stated that North Vietnam, "...should be bombed back into the stone age..." President Richard Nixon used General LeMay's preferred weapon, the B-52 Stratofortress Bomber, to bring NORTH Vietnam back to the negotiation table (Peace Conference tables).

Nixon launched the most massive "Maximum Effort" bombing strikes over NORTH Vietnam, not seen since WW2; with the aerial bombing campaigns named Operations "Linebacker" and "Linebacker II."

Nixon launched US ground invasions into the neutral countries of Cambodia (1970) and Laos (US supported, 1971).

The Cambodian invasion (incursion) resulted in the Kent State Shootings on 04 May 1970.

Nixon's strategies worked. The North returned to the Peace talks.
