Cecilia was an early Christian during the years of persecution by the Roman government. Along with her husband and his brother they devoted their lives to helping the less fortunate including providing a decent burial for the victims of Roman cruelty. All three eventually met a similar death. Before she died, Cecilia gave her home to be used as a church and also saw to it that all her wealth was distributed to the poor.

Cecilia was a beautiful young lady and of a noble Roman family. She was married to a pagan who she converted to Christianity. Even though she was married she remained a virgin and her husband joined her in her ministry to the needy.

Cecilia was not a 'religious' in terms of being a nun. She lived her life as a Christian in the manner we are all called upon by Christ to live. She fed the hungry, gave drink to the thirsty, shelter to the homeless, clothing to the naked and buried the dead. She had the calling from her earliest years to live a life in the manner we are called by Our Lord to live. In the end she gave her life for her beliefs.
