"Originally?" That's like asking for the history of an area of central Europe for the last 250,000 years.

Before it was Slovakia, it was part of "Czechoslovakia", and before that it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Before that, it was part of the Holy Roman Empire, and a few centuries earlier it had been part of the Roman empire.

it used to be called Czechoslovakia, which split in 1993 into Czech Republic and Slovakia
