The Bible is unclear on if Jesus actually physically went to the place called Hell. He did however experience the full anger of God toward every sinful action that had ever been done. Think about all of the painful things you've experienced in life, the guilt of the things you've done wrong, the pain over the things that have been done to you that have scarred you. Then think about the evil in the world, the pain of the child who is enduring horrific abuse & the darkness & evil of the abuser. The sting of racism and the hatred that causes racism. The Horror of genocide and the horrors within the minds of those who could carry it out. Multiply that times about 7.5 billion (the number of people on the earth) add in the horror of being eternally cut off from the creator the source of all life and goodness in the universe. If you can imagine that, that's something like what Jesus experienced and He did it all so that we wouldn't have to wallow in it for the rest of our lives and for the rest of eternity.
