Jesus' earthly mission was to come onto the earth and die for our sins. Jesus also was to be crucified on a cross once that have happened.

Answer:

Jesus' earthly mission has two parts. The first one He fulfilled and the second part He will fulfill upon His return to earth. He revealed it to the Jews one Sabbath day in His hometown of Nazareth, when He read to them a prophecy about Him in Isaiah:

"...on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom. And He stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it is written: 'The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.'

"Then He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on Him, and He began by saying to them, 'Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.'" (Luke 4:16-21 NIV)

Despite the fact that before that church service ended, they all tried to kill Him, Jesus survived and lived on to do all those things. He preached the good news of His coming Kingdom... His "spiritual magnification" of God's Word revealed its liberating aspect to those with the eyes to see (John 8:31-32)... His miracles caused many to believe - and His death on our behalf was found to be an acceptable sacrifice with His Father.

For the second part of His seven-year earthly ministry that was cut off in the middle after 3 1/2 years... we have to turn to that passage in Isaiah, where He closed the scroll on that prophecy. The last 3 1/2 year phase of His ministry is what happens when He comes back:

"...(to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor) and THE DAY OF VENGEANCE OF OUR GOD, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations..." (Isa.61:2-4 NIV).

The second part of Christ's ministry will begin with His vengeance on the wicked... His invasion of the earth with His angelic forces at Armageddon, and the subsequent systematic removal of any sinister underground resistance movement by His angels that may be hiding among the nations.

Modern professing Christianity has it all wrong. It's not Christians who will be taken away... it will be the wicked. Since it will be as "the days of Noah were"... it was the wicked who were taken. NOAH AND HIS FAMILY WERE LEFT BEHIND!

"...they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. THAT IS HOW IT WILL BE AT THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN. Two men will be in the field (working under the management of the new Government of God); one will be taken and the other left..." (Matt.24:39-40 NIV).

"...the Son of Man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His Kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matt.13:41-42)

Once these are taken out of the way... healing will begin on a global scale among the nations, the recovery and restoration of the earth will commence... and God's laws and judgment will prevail for a thousand years.

That is Jesus' earthly mission.
