There wasn't a real benifit looking back but when it was around people were in it for the goods that they got for trading the slaves, like sugar for the british and guns for the africans plus workers "slaves" for the americans.

There was a benefit. A benefit for the Europeans who took part and for their Economies as well as their descendants. Slaves were used to build infrastructure, in commercial farms, in European house-holds as servants, maids, cooks, nannies etc. There was a real benefit for Europeans but none for the slaves. Tate and Lyle and other Companies benefited directly from the Trade and still do today. So did Lloyds TSB who were under-writers for the slave ships. There was trade among Europeans and local people but as the demand grew Europeans resorted to violence to get the slaves. Slavery in itself is common in Africa but nothing as cruel and inhumane as the Europeans and Capitalism made it. European Scienctists classified Africans as sub-human and that was justification enough for such brutal behaviour towards them. However, since then Science has re-adjusted it's view...

The Atlantic Slave trade was also known as the Triangular trade because it was acontinuous loop, or should i say triangle. It started in Europe where slave traders or merchants would have manufactured goods and rum on board of their ship, they would then go on one leg of the journey to Africa. They would trick and trade African tribe leaders to hand over their people to be sold into slavery. The slaves were then cramped tightly into a boat, many died on this leg of the journey. They then sold the Africans into America and New Spain. Then take the final leg of the journey back to Europe where they had manufactures goods and bills of exchange which they took to Europe and trade for trinkets, manufacturedgoods and rum to start the triangle again and go and trade for slaves.

in order to have a fairly healthy community, the kings of Africa would trade people from Africa to Europe while the Europeans would give goods in return for slavery.... my personal thought is that the kings made a HUGE mistake.

Free Labour. The south rellied heavily on slaves to keep their economy ticking over. There were less slaves in the north because their economy rellied less upon free labour. Although it sounds crude and harsh, slaves were conveniant (not that I believe it was right). Free Labour. The south rellied heavily on slaves to keep their economy ticking over. To make money. They were busy slaughtering the native population of the Americas and stealing their gold. They shipped the gold back to Europe and we're not allowed to say what happened to it then. The ships were sailing back to the Americas empty, so a cargo had to be found in order to boost profits: humans.
