Throughout the war, Japan was bombed with conventional bombs- high explosive and incendiary. Just before Japan surrendered, two Japanese cities were attacked with atomic bombs. Both were fission type bombs, with different designs, and each pretty well destoyed the target cities ( reason that Japan surrendered)

A fire balloon (風船爆弾, fūsen bakudan, lit. "balloon bomb"), or Fu-Go.

It was a balloon bomb launched by the Japanese that used the Jet Stream to travel to the United States. Even though some 5,000 were launched during the war, there was one recorded instance where five American civilians were killed near Bly, Oregon, on May 5th, 1945 when they went to inspect and retrieve one such balloon bomb.

There were two bombs used at the end of the war; these destroyed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of these bombs was called "Fat Man", and the other, "Little Boy"; these names were given due to the appearance of the two bombs, which were shaped differently.
