The Stamp Act of 1765
UNLAWFUL TAXATION without REPRESENTATION.
The British were taxing the Americans without them OKing it so taxation means taxing and representation means agreement
When the cry of "No taxation without representation" was in 1765
They used the slogan "No taxation without representation" against the British as they had nobody to represent them in the British Parliament.
"No taxation without representation."
Taxation created tension because the Americans thought it was unfair to pay taxes to the parliaments when the Americans had no representation in the parliament.
"No Taxation Without Representation!" was the phrase.
The British colonists in America before the War of Independence (no taxation without representation /in the British Parliament/).
They could have allowed the colonies to have representation in the British Parliament. The colonists would not have minded taxation as much had there been representation from the colonies.
It is the lack of direct representation in the British parliament.
No "Taxation Without Representation" was important to the Americans back then because they really didn't have the money to pay the taxes anyway. Also, they already hated the British and didn't want to pay taxes that a house of representatives didn't approve of. So really that was why the idea of no taxation without representation was important.
In a nutshell, they were angry because they had no direct representation in the British Government. Taxation without representation!
