Personally I don’t believe that the emancipation did what we expected it to do, which was free slaves in what was a country we did not exactly have jurisdiction over. however, there is the thought that Lincoln used the emancipation as a military tactic; causing the British to realize that the war was now about slavery (slavery had been already abolished in GB so at the time they were against it), it also caused a moral boost both in our army and the army that was yet to come (the 54th Massachusetts Regiment)...but all of this is open to opinion just make sure you research before you argue any case:D
Because it builted mills and emplyed young women to do the work.
The 54th Massachusetts did not attack alone, there were several other regiments in its brigade also involved. The attackers briefly gained possession of a small portion of the Fort, but were then ejected, so the attack failed. The Yankees never did capture the Fort. As time went on more Yankees arrived in the Charleston area and joined the campaign to capture that city. The complicated system of rivers and islands around Charleston was dotted with earthwork forts, like Wagner, and artillery batteries. Eventually the Yankees got into positions where Fort Wagner was becoming very isolated and exposed, so its Confederate defenders blew it up one night and escaped in the darkness to Charleston.
Because it was where the 54th Mass. was first organized.
The 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment was a Militia troop comprised of black soldiers led by white officers, and commanded by Colonel Robert Shaw. Sergeant William Carney of the 54th received the Medal of Honor
1- They were an all-Black regiment. There were other black regiments organized from ex-slaves as the Union army moved through the Southern States. This unit was raised within Massachusetts from free men and some ex-slaves who had escaped the South.2- This black regiment distinguished itself in battle. Many black soldiers did not see combat and some did not perform well in combat. The 54th Mass had at least one man earn the Medal of Honor.3- It had a movie made about it: called "Glory". Several books have been published about it and the memoirs of its commander.4- Not all of the regiment was killed in the battle of Fort Wagner, as the movie implies.
The attack by a brigade which included several regiments, including the 54th Massachusetts, on Battery Wagner was repulsed. Some of the attackers did make it to the interior of the fortification, but the Rebels rallied and drove them out. Battery Wagner never fell to the Yankees. Developments elsewhere around Charleston rendered the Rebel ability to continue to hold the battery questionable, so it was evacuated by its garrison and blown up as they retreated.
The battle of Fort Wagner took place during the United States Civil War. It served an important role as the battle that had African American soldiers playing a significant role. There were actually two battles of Fort Wagner one on July 11, the other on the 18th.
Obama is the 54th president, so 2008
Col. Peissner is the commanding officer of his regiment.
They made a brave attack, but it was unsuccessful. The attack was actually made by their whole brigade, so three other regiments also took part. Some of the Union troops, including men of the 54th Massachusetts, actually fought their way inside the Fort for a brief time, but were then forced back out with heavy losses. Union troops never succeeded in capturing Battery (or Fort) Wagner. Eventually its Rebels garrison was outflanked as Union artillery and troop positions bypassed the Battery and threatened to cut it off. So one dark night the Rebel troops blew up their own Fort and escaped to Charleston.

The black soldiers managed to penetrate into the fort but, in spite of their gallant behaviour, after a relentless fighting they were repulsed with heavy losses and their commander, Col. Shaw was shot to dead. Sergeant William H. Carney so distinguished himself that he was later awarded the Medal of Honor, the first to be given to a black soldier.
i believe the main event of the battle of fort of battery wgner was the 54th Massachusetts voluntary infantry, an all black regiment attacking the confederates. Even the the regiment did lose many men during the battle they fought hard with hand to hand combat with the Confederates. The regiment lost 25% of it's men including its commanding officer General Robert gould Shaw.
Plymouth was so important because it was located in Massachusetts and it was the first to have a governing and survive. (=
