The flight that successfully broke the Sound Barrier was flown by then Captain Charles (Chuck) Yeager of the Air Force on October 14 1947. The craft, now in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, was a Bell XS-l later retitled X-l the first of the X-craft. craft did not take off under its own power, was dropped from a B-29.

The first plane to take off under it"s own power and attain Mach 1 In level flight was probably the Navy"s Douglas Skyrocket in 1952. Obviously this is far closer to something(useful in the tactical field) The Skyrocket, aptly named also was first plane to hit Mach 2 at least in the United States. Both X-l and Skyrocket- D-558-ii were purely experimental craft and not (Issue) fighters or bombers.

What was the date of the flight that was faster then the speed of sound made?

There are a number of claims concerning the first plane to fly faster than sound but some of these claims can not be verified or took place in circumstances which did not count as powered level flight. It is generally accepted that first flight faster than sound that could be officially documented was achieved by Chuck Yeager on October 14, 1947.

Was Concorde the only commercial plane that could go faster than the speed of sound?

On October 14, 1947, Captain Chuck Yeager, a World War II fighter pilot, became the first to break the sound barrier. He did i t in a four rocket motored experimental aircraft called the Bell X-1.

How do fighter pilots communicate when they break the speed of sound?

Fighter pilots don't use sound to communicate, they use radios, and radio waves travel far faster than any plane to date, so there is no trouble communicating.

What was the date when the first plane flew faster than the speed of light?

This has not happened yet. It is usually believed that travelling faster than the speed of light is not possible.

Will a faster CPU make startup programs load faster?

A faster CPU will speed startup ONLY if you have enough RAM; adding RAM is generally a cheaper speed upgrade if your motherboard & OS can support it. You should also make sure all your start up programs and device drivers are up to date, as newer programs and drivers are often faster.

How loud to break the sound barrier?

Charles YeagerInformation on Charles Yeager:Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager was born on 13 February 1923 in Myra, West Virginia. After joining the army at age 16 and training as an aircraft mechanic, he was then selected for flight training. His service record during WWII was impeccable, becoming an "ace-in-a-day" after shooting down five enemy aircraft in a single mission. Yeager remained in the Air Force after the war. He became a test pilot and was ultimately selected to fly the rocket-powered Bell X-1 in a NACA program to research high-speed flight. On 14 October 1947 he broke the sound barrier in the technologically advanced X-1.Yeager continued to work with experimental craft, achieving faster and faster speeds. He piloted the X1-A, a longer and more powerful version of the X-1, to a speed of mach 2.4 on 12 December 1953. This was almost two and a half times the speed of sound and the fastest of any human being to that date.

Why cant cars faster than all other cars produce sonic booms?

Cars that faster don't boom because they is like vroom but that would not be fast enough to do a fast boom. A sonic boom happens when an object exceeds the speed of sound (AKA Mach 1) which is aprox 671 mph at sea level and at 68 degrees F. Only one land vehicle to date has broken the sound barrier. The land vehicle is called the Thrust SSC.
