After The Battle of Hastings saxon people were enslaved into what could only be called black slavery. they were also put through hell from William of Normandy e.g the harrying of the north were William got all live stock and weat etc and burnt it all. The battle of hastings had a great effect on the way the british lived, when William the congueror won the battle of hasting the french brought over many different rules that the engligh must follow for instance the french made engligh talk french, brought the laws and way of life over, the engligh found this hard to live with because of the french had such a different was of living to the English.
When King Harold lost the battle, the Normans went on a rampage throughout England. The Anglo-Saxon period of time came to an end when William was crowned King of England on Christmas Day 1066. Although there were a variety of small uprisings, by 1070 he had total control of all England.
William the Conquerer and this battle was one of epic consequences.
After the battle of hastings the Normans took control of Britain and began the Norman conquest but before that William had to deal with a lot of problems like a castle in dover in control of a castle rebelling a threat from Scandinavia that they were going to invade.
The sequence of events is as follows:-
-Harold was killed by an arrow in the eye about twilight.-William had Harold's body buried by the seashore.
-Two days later he returned to Hastings
-Five days later he occupied Dover, and strengthened its castle.
-William then went from Canterbury to Little Berkhampstead , a distance of 350 miles, in 7 weeks ( Canterbury then to Lenham, Seal, Westerham, Godstone, Guildford, Micheldever, Basing, Alresford, Lambourn, Wallingford (where he crossed the Thames), and then to Little Berkhampstead ),
-At Little Berkhampstead "he was met by the magnates of London , who tendered to him the submission of the city and offered to him the crown."
-He "at first feigned hesitation, then he accepted it [the crown]" and built what was to become the Tower of London
-He was crowned King on Christmas Day 1066 by Ealdred of York in Westminster Abbey.
-He spent the next three years (1066-1069) putting down rebellions.
-In 1070 he felt secure enough to disband his mercenary troops.
-in 1072 he invaded Scotland "and at Abernethy compelled Malcolm Canmore to do homage to him."
-He died in 1087.
