What other kinds of popular enterainment were there in Shakespeare's time?

A lot of entertainment was provided by people for themselves, but professional entertainers included actors, acrobats, jugglers, musicians and clowns (comedians). The entertainment took the form of plays, masques and revels.

Other entertainments available to everyone included bullbaiting and bearbaiting, and of course public executions. The nobility like masques which were not really plays, but more pageants, with elaborate costumes, Classical allusions and lots of music. There were professional musicians, but they did not have popular followings.

Actually, one very popular form of entertainment was going to church and listening to sermons. As strange as this may seem, the Puritans especially loved doing this and would go out of their way to find preachers who could preach three hours at a stretch.

People also made their own entertainments, a lot more than they do these days.
