Depending on the colour and quality of clothes determined your social status at the time. Upper class women generally wore a long dress that squeezed their waistline and was very uncomfortable to wear. This was so that it shows the contours of the body.

Higher Males generally wore suits everyday, and when attending a party/celebration, he would then use a different suit and possible a hat.

Lower class individuals were not as grateful and were forced to wear dirty, torn and old clothing. Trousers, boots and an overall was what they wore on a daily basis, as this is what they wore for work at the time.
