The first public television station was set up by the newly formed BBC. Not only was it the first television station in the UK, it was indeed the first in the world.
The system in use was developed by John Logie Baird who first demonstrated it in 1925 and 1926. It was a black and white image and made up of just 30 lines.

It is believed live radio first went on air on Christmas eve, 1906 broadcast by Reginald Fessenden although this has been disputed. Lee de Forest definitely broadcast an advert in 1907 and the first public radio station was launched in 1910.
