Some people have considered it thus, with the occult and morbid angles of presentation it is closer to the Occult fantasies of say The Twilight Zone. Mary Shelley certainly catapult-launched the artificial or reanimated life idea into full prominence! By a related token, while done with fantasy magic- ( a Blue Angel, not the USN variety) in a very loose sense (Pinocchio) can be considered a juvenile Frankenstein story with some related concepts- artificial life form has no moral compass.. needs a coinscience implant ( jiminy Cricket) the whole idea of Artificial intelligent life is on the borderline of occult fantasy and science fiction. In Pinocchio, it is achieved by Magic, in Frankenstein , weird science. so it goes. Some lines shouldn't be crossed!

Yes and no. the whole idea of artificial life, here created or more accurately re-animated from dead bodies- belongs to science fiction as well as the Horror or Monster Genre. popularily it is horror, technically it is science-fiction. of some intererest Mary Shelley did not write any other science-fiction romances or novels, just Frankenstein, so the monster work, indeed. a more science-fictional development of related ideas will be found in Donovan"s Brain and on a sexier node- The Head. There is some evidence the latter work was inspired in part by the Francoise Dorleac tragedy of l967. Plan a head!
