there was a great impact, both socially and economically. Depending of course on which war you are discussing here, and i am assuming it is probably one of the world wars, Britain rationed food, as there wasnt enough to go round, and as so many civilian houses were destroyed there were many homeless and many orphans, go to this site http://www.bbc.co.UK/history/war/wwone/ for ww1 and this http://www.bbc.co.UK/history/war/wwtwo/ for ww2 for more information.
AnswerIn the case of WW2 Britain emerged in an economic mess, heavily in debt and with its empire breaking up. It had played a key role in winning WW2 but at a very heavy price.Socially and in terms of domestic policy, there was a sharp swing to the Left after WW2 with the election of the Attlee government and the establishment of a welfare state.
Well, obviously there were the 'impacts' of the German bombs and rockets, but Britain was also being starved out, and their industrial and war supplies were dangerously low with little raw material from which to build ships and planes to defend herself against Germany. Canada helped Britain survive by supporting and supplying her via the Royal Canadian Navy which escorted convoys carrying everything from iron ore to baby food. Canadian men and women who joined Canada's Armed Forces, trained to be troops, sailors, pilots, and Medical Staff and went to defend Britain on land, at sea, and in the air in HMC tanks, ships, and planes. Many Britains were also trained to fly by Canadian Flight Training Officers.
Also, due to the constant bombing day after day, night after night, many of London's old buildings were totally destroyed by the blasts or the fire storms that followed. Following the war, the rubble was cleared, making way for newer safer buildings to be erected in their place.
Much housing was destroyed, much industry and many cities were damaged, and Britain was left bankrupt, as were many European countries, including Germany. That's without considering the human cost in lives lost and minds twisted.
Germany could not (or would not) invade Great Britain.
Edit: The Battle of Britain was the battle fought in the sky over Britain between the British and German airforce in 1940. Britain had superior technology such as the radar, and were far superior in general so defeated Germany. This was one of the most significant battles in WW2 as it was the first time that Germany were defeated and it was the point when Hitlers plan started to fail.
At that time, America had refused to join the war (They eventually joined over a year later, and only because Germany announced war on them) so Britain had to fight without their help.
If Germany had won, Hitler may have taken over Britain and as Britain were one of the main allies in this war, the war may have ended up VERY differently.
So this Battle had a very significant impact.
Britain was bankrupt at the end of the war and owed huge amounts of money to the US under the Land/Lease agreement.
It cost Britain a lot of money, and caused many peopel to be xenophobic and racist to Germans.
