Although no one can know for sure, the estimated life span of a saber-tooth cat was about the same as a modern day lion, or 20 - 40 years.

I heard the life span was like an anverage tiger's in the wild which is 10-15 years!!! :D

Saber tooth tigers lived many, many years ago back when the earth was trapped in an Ice Age. At that time, woolly mammoths and mastodons roamed the icy land. Smilodons, which were a type of saber tooth tiger, were a tiny bit smaller than the panthers that live today. However, smilodons were heavier than panthers, weighing a whopping 440 lbs. The smilodons were the biggest kind of saber tooth. Saber tooths were very fierce predators. Predators, the sabor tooth tiger was about the size of the African lion. Some saber tooth tigers grew up to 15 feet in length!

Scientists say that saber tooth tigers probably ate mammoths, antelope, deer, and buffalo. When they ate animals bigger than themselves, such as mammoths and buffalo, they would have had a big group of saber tooths, called a pack, kill the animal. Scientists also think that some saber tooth tigers could have possibly lived in grassy or woody habitats, but others could have lived in icy lands. Saber tooths lived in many places in Asia and Europe. However, some saber tooth tigers remains have been found in the La Brea tar pits in California. These bones are said to be over 10,000 years old. Obviously, the saber tooth made its way to North America. They are said to live up to the expanse as long as a normal cat or dog would usually live. WITHOUT SICKNESSES they'd be longer. -smiles and good luck

There were many types of saber toothed cats. If you are referring to the most famous genus, Smilodon, they existed on Earth for nearly 1.8 million years.

The whole subfamily of saber-toothed cats existed for 22.989 million years.

There were also a number of other unrelated animals referred to as saber toothed.

As far as life span, I would guess that they lived less than 20 years, similar to wild lions.

Nobody knows the lifespan of any saber toothed cat species, as they went extinct long before written records. However, most modern big cats live up to 15 years in the wild, so saber toothed cats probably had a similar lifespan.
