∙ 12y agoThe Maginot Line was built by the French in the 1930's to provide a physical barrier between Germany and France. Unfortunately for the French, when the Germans attacked France in May 1940, they bypassed the Maginot Line and attacked in mass in the Ardennes Forest. That shocked the French and led to their quick defeat the following month.

∙ 8y agoIt was the Maginot line . The Maginot line was constructed in the 1930's and named after the French Minister of War. It included 22 large underground fortresses and 36 smaller ones as well as blockhouses, bunkers, and rail lines. Despite all of this it was unable to prevent German troops who came into France through Belgium in 1940. They directed the attacks against isolated fortifications on the extreme western tip of the line. After 4 days of fighting and a massive force the Germans captured the casements. Yet, the major fortress sections were never captured by the Germans at any time in the war.

Why did georges clemenceau blame Germany at the end of World War 1?
During WW1 alot of fighting was done on french land and because of this a lot of damage was caused to france's industry and farming. As Germany had 'lost' the war Clemenceau decided that it was Germany who were to blame for the damage done to france.
