After the Domesday Book was completed in 1086, it served as a comprehensive record of land ownership and resources in England. It was used by William the Conqueror and subsequent rulers to manage the kingdom and collect taxes. The book had a lasting impact on land ownership, governance, and legal systems in medieval England.

well it looks rather old and plain. There is a single dark brown colour on the binder and the rest of the cover is a creamy white. take in consideration that it is a thousand years old so the pages on the inside are dirty and brown.

Records for Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk which were the final locations for the commissioners' work. They were probably not included in the main collection because King William died before all the records had been given to the principal scribe. The records are much longer than in Great Domesday and provide an insight into the extent of the information collected by the commissioners, and just how much had to be cut out to make the final version.
