Credit made high ticket items such as cars, refrigerators, washing machines, and vacuum cleaners were only available to the wealthy. Advertising of the 1920s targeted housewives, who were largely stay-at-home moms. Advertising convinced these women that with installment payments, they could easily purchase any large ticket items and have them instantly.
