George Washington (1732-1734) was the 1st President of the United States and was the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolution (1775-1783).

George Washington was also a wealthy Virginia plantation owner. He served in the Virginia Militia during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). He was a leader in the Continental Congresses, but resigned to become Commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. In 1789 he was elected as the first President of the United States under the US Constitution.

Washington had his inauguration in New York City, the temporary capital of the US. As the first president of the US, Washington set many precedents to establish the office. In 1790, Washington oversaw the planning of the new US national Capital. In 1791, the new city was named in his honor.

His wife was Martha Washington.
George Washington (1732-1799) was commander of the Colonial army that won the Revolutionary War against Britain and made the United States an independent country. He served as the first president of the United States . In early years, he was a surveyor and a British officer in the French and Indian War. He was active in the Congresses that preceded the revolution and became wealthy by running his plantation, Mount Vernon in Northern Virginia. His face appears on the US $1 bill and the quarter coin.
He was the first President of the United States, the Commander-In-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and one of the founding fathers of the United States. He died Saturday, December 14, 1799.

George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, Westmoreland County, Virginia, VA. He died on December 14, 1799, in his bed at Mount Vernon, VA. He was buried on December 18, 1799 in the family tomb at Mount Vernon, VA. The original tombs were deteriorating, so in his will he asked for new tombs to be built. In 1831, the remains of George, his wife Martha, and other family members were moved to the new tomb. See mountvernon.org/the-estate-gardens/the-tombs/

First, I think you are asking about George Washington's history, the various achievements in his life. To answer the question "Who was George Washington" (the pronoun "what" is usually used for things, while we use "who" when asking about people), this requires considering Washington's many achievements, since they are all part of who he was.

Most Americans remember Washington as the first president of the newly created United States. But at other times in his life, he was known as a great military commander, whose leadership helped the American colonists to defeat the British and win independence; he was a delegate to the Second Continental Congress; he was involved in creating the Constitutional Convention in 1787; and he was a contemporary of men like Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, with whom he later helped to shape United States government policy. Thus President Washington was many things in his life, and he is generally remembered in a very positive way.
