They were called ξένοι(pronnounced 'xe-ni').

Additional information:

In Ancient Greece, everyone was expected to treat foreigners with respect. They would welcome them as guests, treat them to a meal and wash their legs. After that, they would ask them questions about who they were, and then let them stay at their house for the night. The next day, they would bid them farewell and give them presents.
