Iranian Revolution (1978-79) resulted in the end of Pahlavi Dynasty in Iran and establishment of a radical Shiite Islamic state. The resultant Islamic state in Iran has had very stormy relationship with western world. There have been accusations of terrorism sponsoring from USA and its allies against Iran and Iran blames west for promoting unrest in region and trying to hurt Iranian interests. Several economic and military sanctions have been applied on Iran and its nuclear program has been under the microscope for quite sometime now.

The 1979 revolution in Iran was a failed and still largely unfinished revolution. The aims of the revolution was to set up a republic that brought democracy. Instead, the revolution brought the following:

-Near civil war and war with Iraq.

-Weak leadership (Khomeini was old and poorly, Bazargan resigned and Bani Sadr did not stand up to parliament).

-Gun-toting paramilitaries with a very warped view of religion and nationalism but who had a very poor and repressive style of governance hijacked the regime from its weak/elderly leaders.

-Khomeini got the blame for ALL of the things that went wrong. He was not to blame.

-Khamenei, Rafsanjani and others all were corrupt and amassed great rich and high office.

-A monarchy still exists. The position of Shah - held now by Khamenei - is just renamed supreme leader.

-The Iranian army is weak and largely replaced by a junta called Revolutionary Guards who are the gun-toters who took control. Ayatollahs and politicians are the puppets for them to make them legit. Any ayatollahs or politicians who front for them are either corrupt or scared.

-Weird relations with other countries.

-Iran - despite its oil wealth - being a VERY poor, poor country.

-Less democracy in Iran than with the Pahlavi Shahs.

-The people largely wanting to still achieve the missed true goals of their 1979 revolution.
