A great trading empire
We are often told that the Phoenicians invented the alphabet. Regardless of who put pen to papyrus to create it, the Phoenician contribution was none-the-less major and critical. They were the major sea-traders of the Mediterranean, and they went everywhere. When the Phoenicians began using the alphabet as a simple and easy way to keep track of their trades, it was exposed to everyone. Also they show the other countries that ships could travel around the globe trading important commodities. Phoenician mariners sailed to Mediterranean and southwestern European ports. The Phoenicians were the great merchants of ancient times. They sold rich treasures from many lands.

The Pheonicians [ancient human beings] originally invented "writing". They actually used pictographs to write and get their messages across. That was the earliest form of writing. The term "Pheonix" comes from "Pheonicians". The Egyptians were the first to use atype of writing. Menes or narmer were the first as they had to think of a mailing system as they had many city's, and this happend before the 1st dynasty, which was believed to have been around 300 BC
"International Trade" was accomplished/performed by the Phoenicians.

Carthage was founded as a North African phoenician colony around 814BC: supposedly by a phoenician princess called Dido. So in essence the Carthaginians were descendants of the Phoenicians: although they also have indigenous amazigh/berber north african blood as well.
