They felt unrepresented by the Versailles Treaty, in which not much was given to the Italians. This gave rise to nationalistic feeling and paved the way for Mussolini's rise 4 years later.

Italy also increased land seizures on 1919 was followed by poor harvests in 1919-1920, and Law and Order began to break down. Furthermore, emigration to the USA was greatly reduced from 1919.

The Irish economy went down as many homeless people were affected greatly. The war effort consumed huge amounts of industrial goods, but no peacetime economy could match this. Iceland lacked raw materials, a large domestic market and an established trading system, all leading to post-war economic problems, such as a post war recession

The "system" has prevented me from fixing this questions categories to the correct ones. The correct ones are Benito Mussolini - fascism and Italy in WW 1.

After the first World War, the economics and social structures of Italy were not in good shape. Here are some examples of the economic situation of Italy after the First World War;

A. After WW1 many Italians were victims of lowering standards of living. These were already low and became worse;

B. Inflation drove the prices of goods and services very high, a distressful situation;

C. Heavy taxes had to be levied to for the cost of the war; and

D. The factors cited above all contributed to a high unemployment rate

One important result of this was the fascist promise to improve these conditions. The fascists won support from low paid workers, the unemployed, the impoverished middle class, and landless peasants.

Another situation that developed in post war Italy centered around the fear of communism.

In some areas, workers took over factories and peasants seized land from wealthy land owners. To many conservative minded Italians, this seemed like the communist revolution in Russia. Fascists promised to fight communism and socialism. This gained the fascists support from wealthy and influential individuals. From this, the leading fascist, Benito Mussolini was able to buy arms and fund private para military bands.

The fascists appealed to Italian Nationalism. Although Italy had received territories from Austria that contained Italian populations, there remained disappointment. They had expected more land especially in Africa, the Middle East, and the Balkans. This would have permitted Italy to dominate the Adriatic Sea. Fascist claims to restore a part of the ancient Roman empires appealed to nationalists, youths, veterans and army officers.

The weak Italian government was split among many different parties. The Parliament was unable to solve economic problems and maintain law and order. Thus they were not able to stem the rise of fascism. Also, Italy lacked any sort of democratic traditions. When faced with the prospect of a fascist Dictatorship, many did little to defend their weak democracy.

Finally, Benito Mussolini, who once was a socialist, turned to being a radical nationalist and in favor of a fascist dictatorship. He and his party seized control of the Italian government.

In summary, Italy was affected by the end of WW1 by turning to a fascist dictatorship to solve its problems.
