Meeting in 1787, the American Constitution Convention had a number of central themes that served as primary discussion-points, and points of contention, for the delegates in attendance. None was more important than the multi-faceted theme conveyed in this two-part question, 'What power must the federal government legally wield -- and how?'

The ideas introduced were to give more power to the federal government than under the Articles of Confederation (AOC). They were

-What type of govt. they decided republic

-How many votes should delegates get. This was resolved with the great compromise.

-How much power to give to the central govt.

-How should states be represented

-How should slaves be counted. 3/5 slaves.

-How should the chief executive be elected (the electorial college)

-Last but definitley not least what went in the constitution. One of the most famous documents in American history!
