On 17 January 1995, Kobe was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 on the Richter scale.
Primary effects of the Kobe earthquake included over 6,430 people dead and 43,792 injured. Over 300,000 were left homeless. 104,906 houses were completely destroyed, and 460,000 were damaged. This was because of the high density layout of the city.
Secondary effects included gas leaks, water mains being cut off and electricity lines being damaged. With gas leaks and loose electrical wires, fires started - of the buildings damaged or destroyed, 7,483 were burnt to the ground and 9,017 more damaged by the fires.
Over 200,000 buildings collapsed, killing 5,000 and making 300,000 homeless also many buildings sunk into the ground due to liquefaction. Also the Hanshin Expressway was virtually destroyed severing most transportation routes in the Kansai region of Japan.
All of the above are secondary effects of the Kobe disaster. Primary effects are : Landmovement and Liquefaction.
the secondary effects of the Kobe earthquake, that occured in japan in January 1995 were:
- fires caused by ruptured gas mains.
- destruction of homes, due to fires.
- 300,000 people made homeless.
:) thankyou, if u need any more help with geography, you can find me on facebook
Aside from more than 6,000 people who died, one of the long-term effects of the Kobe earthquake is the ten trillion yen of damage it left to Japan. Kobe also lost its title as the busiest sea port in the world.
The environment has an impact on when the fire set off by cracked gas pipes but many fire engines ran out of water before the fires were stopped. 350, 000 were homeless and had been given emergency shelter but a number of hospitals were destroyed. The electricity lines were cut, as a result, large areas of Kobe were faint so it was difficult to seek for survivors. Also due to the burst of water mains, flood was seen.
A huge earthquake hit Los Angeles on 17 January 1994 killing more than 20 people. The earthquake that measured 6.6 on the Richter scale and lasted for 40 seconds, it struck at 0431 local time. More than 1,000 people had been injured.
The skyway collapsed during the earthquake also houses were damaged, Hospitals were effected, Transportation, School-Education and buildings were effected. The government spent millions of dollars on repairs. Many people were out of work for a long time becaue their work places had been destroyed or damaged. Children were of school for quiet a long period.
Well, the short term effects were that the buildings were short and an easy target. The long term effects were that the buildings were that there were long tall buildings which were a not soo easy target which was ok for the people who lived on the top of the building....... x <3
1994, 17th January, LosAngeles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northridge_earthquake
There was many farms destroyed and most farmers lost jobs.
Short-term effects and long-term effects of the Water Use and Management Practices on the Environment?
gg
The term magnitude is used to describe the size of an earthquake.
acid rain can affect many things
Magnitude is another term for the strength of an earthquake.
businesses were closed for months people homeless lack of transport links international aid
everything
economic decline and urban blight
Business's' close down, transport links can close, people die, utility line are down, fires? (I'm relating mine to the 1995 Kobe earthquake but most of these happen in other earthquakes)
The Hashin highway collapsed, train tracks became twisted and buckled, roads cracked, water mains burst, houses and buisnesses knocked down and over 6400 people died.
loss of income, illnesses would have spread throughout the town
the long term effects are seismic waves which are little earthquakes after thr REAL earthquake; they will go on for who knows how long....the short terms the length of the REAL earthquake the truth is no one knows how long it will take to recover from Haiti it might take years it might take more or less.......just help in whatever way you can!!!
The Hanshin earthquake brings on the same short-term and long-term effects as most other natural disasters. The areas affected will see a strong influx of income as the area rebuilds, and in the long run, this income will provide a more reliable, productive economy.
the long-term effects of SSRIs are unknown
The short term effects in Bangladesh earthquake include destruction of property and minor causalities. There are advanced technologies currently being used to detect earthquakes before they happen.
i need to know that too ! lol
What were the long-term effects of Shay's Rebellion?
