Better Answer***
People say that the benefits of the Confederation were better trade, a railway system and defense against Americans. Canada East's distinct culture was recognized after the Confederation. Unfortunately, Nova Scotia would not benefit from the railways and would not have much say in the Government. The French speaking population was divided after the confederation.
The colonies would be stronger and more independent. The colonies would have strong central government to control the defense, taxation, postage, currency etc. also the Britain abandoned the mercantilism so the colonies would have to unite in order to survive because Britain no longer provided the colonies with the guarantee on market and it got its material from other countries for a lower price.
The inhabitants sought confederation with Canada East in order to secure the unified government.
· Without railway connections by which they could help each other and without a plan for common action the divided provinces were in a most dangerous position.
· The Americans were threatening to attack and (see above)
· The coalition year of 1864 was when Brown joined with Macdonald and Cartier and agreed that if the two provinces (east and west) would join each province would have its own government for matters like education
· Canada West needed to be able to sell their goods to other markets. At this time there were very few places that they could sell to. One solution was to bring all the colonies together. In this way they could more easily sell their goods to each other.
By the late 1850s, all the farmable land in Canada West had been sold. The next frontier lay west of Lake Superior, in the lands owned by the Hudson's Bay Company.
The only pro would be not being taken over by the worlds largest and most prosperous superpower of the 20th century.
The cons continue to be played out. The "Western Colonies" were not, other than British Columbia, like those on the East Coast. The West was purchased and acquired by Canada and as such most of the West are or were colonies of Canada.
That status means that even when much of the land was given provincial status they never achieved equal status. Even today Western Canada is not given an equal role in Confederation and is expect to pay more into Confederation than it receives This is particularly the case for Alberta but all of Western Canada has been treated as less than an equal partner.
The cons include being displaced by massive Canadian Immigration, having their history written by Canada, and having their future being decided by people from thousands of miles away, by people from a different culture with a different view of their past and future. acquired
Settle it. 1. Weren't interested in railways because they travel by sea. 2.Cost of buying goods from Canada would be higher than buying goods from Britain because of the terffis. 3. Pros: Railway would be paid off. Would have protection against fenian attack. Cons: Cost of goods would be higher in Canada rather than in Britain because of tariffs. They wouldn't have any say in choices made by Canada. The cons were that New Brunswick would lose control after Confederation. After Sir Samuel Leonard Tilley was re-elected into office the people had a compleatly different mind set. They were afraid of the Americans and wanted a strong army behind them. There were economic benefits if they formed confederation with Canada
The question is based on how after Canadas Confederation, Canada was given federal and provincial governments. With provincial governments, the curriculum and laws are different for everyone. One area that each province controls is education. What are the advantages and disadvantage?

"Canada West" was not a political entity. It was part of the pre-Confederation Province of Canada. "Canada West" was a geographical name that was applied to the territory of the former colony of Upper Canada between February 10, 1841, and July 1, 1867, i.e., between the the Act of Union and Confederation.
The main downside of Confederation was that it set the stage for a divided Canada, since it joined the French speaking province of Quebec with other, English speaking, provinces. Confederation also guaranteed Quebec special privileges which haunt Canadians to this day (a certain number/percentage of seats in the house of commons I believe).
There were 6 reasons for the confederation which are:1.Political Deadlock Led To The Great Coalition In The United Provinces Of Canada.2.A railway linking the colonies was needed to increase trade and to move troops.3.Cancellation of the Reciprocity Treaty by the United States in 1865 ended the free trade between BNA and the US.4.There was a threat of American expansion into British North America.5.Great Britain wanted her colonies to be more self-sufficient.6. Some people (especially in Canada West) wanted to expand settlement into Rupert's Land and theNorth-West Territories.
